BSA Merit Badges and Awards

Earn high adventure merit badges with the Rocky Mountain Outdoor Center.  The Arkansas River Valley is a great place to explore outdoor adventure.  The river has great class II sections that are ideal for learning about kayaking and whitewater, while the surrounding mountains offer great areas for rock climbing.  Professional instructors will provide the knowledge and expertise to help you achieve your badges.  We also provide all of the necessary equipment.  So come join the Ark Valley’s oldest paddle school for a day of learning and fun!

Kayaking

ACA Certified instructors will assist you with these merit badge requirements in this half day course.  At our boathouse you will learn about equipment and boat loading.  Then we head to the lake for wet exits and paddle strokes.  Finally the scouts will demonstrate their skills by paddling a buoyed course.  Combine this with the Whitewater Merit Badge course for a full day of boating fun!

  • Courses available any day from May 1- September 30
  • Full day courses include lunch
  • Professional training from certified instructors
  • Sign off from certified BSA merit badge counselor
  • In order to comply with BSA supervision guidelines, we can only offer courses to group of 6 or more Scouts OR a parent/guardian must accompany a single Scout.

  • Review and compare the Safety Afloat and the American Whitewater safety and guidelines.

Earn Multiple Badges

Hang out at RMOC for a few days and earn multiple badges during your stay.  We offer riverside camping in the amazing Arkansas River Valley.  You will enjoy peaceful evenings by the river with incredible views of the towering Collegiate Peaks.

The whole family can enjoy some fun.  Stay another day and enjoy a guided adventure with RMOC professional guides. We offer a variety of outdoor activities, from whitewater rafting trips to mountain biking and even multi-sport adventures.  10% family discount for all merit badge participants.

Camping

Our awesome riverside facility is a great place to stay before or after your day of high adventure. We have primitive sites located down at the river, and also have car camping sites up on the ridge. These sites have a picnic table and fire pit with grill plate.
