Customer Service

Overview:  The reservationist is often the first and last point of contact our customers have with our business. Our business depends on effective customer service, and reservationists are on the front line.

Duties:   Applicants need to be able to speak and write clearly, quickly reference information, and have positive, professional interactions with all people. This is a fast-paced job where accuracy is vital. Duties include, but are not limited to, answering phones, taking reservations, retail, responding to customer inquiries over the phone and by email, and assisting with operations.

Compensation:  $15 – $20/hr DOE

Benefits:  Modest housing options available.  Eligible for pro forms on gear.  Free access to RMOC trips and courses when available.

Minimum Qualifications:  Must be 18 years old.

Guide / Instructor

Overview: For individuals who are passionate about the outdoors and want to share it with others.  Spend the day guiding and teaching outdoor adventures.  We offer private options as well as large group trips and courses.

Duties:  Aside from the hard guiding skills, staff are responsible for the overall well-being of their clients.  This includes safety and comfort.  Customer service and group management skills are essential.

Compensation: $15 – $20/hr DOE and certification level.

Benefits:  $300/season re-imbursement for continuing education.   Modest housing options available.  Eligible for pro forms on gear.  Work and learn from industry leaders.  In house certification courses offered.

Minimum Qualifications: Basic First Aid/CPR required for all positions.  WFA/WFR certification preferred.

  • Kayak Instructor – ACA L3 River Kayak Instructor Certification.
  • SUP/Surf Instructor – ACA L1 Intro to SUP Instructor Certification.
  • Raft Guide – Must complete Colorado ROL training or equivalent.
  • Climbing Guide – AMGA Single Pitch Instructor Certification

Senior Guide / Instructor

Overview:  This position is for seasoned professionals in their respective fields.  Previous experience and multiple certifications are required.

Duties:  In addition to basic guide duties, senior guides will also serve as trip leaders which requires an additional level of responsibility and group management.  This will also include mentoring of the younger staff.  Driving company vehicles is necessary in this position, CDL is NOT required.

Compensation: $20-$25/hr BOE and certification levels

Benefits:  $300/season re-imbursement for continuing education.   Modest housing options available.  Eligible for pro forms on gear.  Ability to teach guest guide courses and certification courses.

Minimum Qualifications: Minimum WFR certification required for all senior guides.  Swiftwater Rescue required for All river guides.  Must have at least 4 years of professional experience.  Need to be 21 years of age to drive vehicles and should be able to back up a trailer if a river guide/instructor.

  • SUP/Surf – ACA L4 whitewater SUP Instructor Certification
  • Raft – Class IV guide with over 1500 commercial miles

Internship – Paddlesports Professional

A gateway into the Paddlesports industry.  Learn the art of guiding and professional instruction from senior staff at the Rocky Mountain Outdoor Center.  Emphasis will be on kayak and SUP/Surf skills.  You will also gain experience with equipment inventory and maintenance as well as administrative duties like scheduling, equipment rentals, and reservations.

  • Accepting applications from January 15 – March 15
  • Start and end dates are somewhat flexible, but May 15 – August 15 is the ideal timeframe.
  • Approximately 20 hours/week administrative and 20 hours/week paddle training
  • Modest housing options available on site with water, trash, recycle, toilets, and internet.
  • Equipment provided
  • $200/week food stipend
  • Eligible to receive ACA Instructor certification at NO charge in the following season.  This is an incredible pathway to work as a kayak or SUP/Surf Instructor the following season.

Head Mountain Guide

Overview:  Help the Mountain Programs at RMOC grow to realize it’s true potential.  This is a 9-month position, although busiest time will be June – September.

Duties:  Guiding and instructing clients in rock climbing, backcountry skiing/splitboarding, and summit hikes.  Training new staff in these activities as well.  Assist with promotion of mountain activities.  Help create new programming within RMOC tenure.  Equipment ordering, inventory, and maintenance.

Compensation: $20-$25/hour DOE and certification levels.

Benefits:  $500/season re-imbursement for continuing education.   Modest housing options available.  Eligible for pro forms on gear.  Ability to teach guest courses and certification courses.

Minimum Qualifications: Minimum WFR certification required.  AMGA SPI certification as minimum, Rock Guide preferred.   AAA Pro 1 certificate.  Must have at least 4 years of professional experience.
