Ark Basin Snowpack Just Right for an Action-Packed Season

Ark Basin Snowpack Just Right for an Action-Packed Season

Indeed, California and Utah saw heavy snowfall this winter, leading to record-shattering snowpacks. While the majority of Colorado experienced an above-normal snowpack, here in the Ark Basin, our snowpack was ideal, setting the stage for a top-shelf season of rafting and kayaking on the spellbinding Arkansas River.

How Snowpack Affects River Conditions
As we enter the warmer months and temperatures increase, snow from the mountain begins to melt. Winters that see high levels of snow result in a runoff far beyond average. Rivers in states like California and Utah, where snowpack was abundant, could see rivers swell quickly. This often results in unrunnable waters.

Thankfully, water levels are perfect this year, pointing to an exciting season ahead. As we enter rafting and kayaking season here at RMOC, join us on a beginning, intermediate, or advanced rafting trip. Trips range from technical to family-based, through Brown’s Canyon, Buena Vista, and the Upper Arkansas Valley. We can’t wait to paddle downstream with you and see what adventures await around the bend.
