Monarch Ridge Classic
When a run is as popular with the staff as it is with the guests, you know it will be good. The Monarch Ridge Classic delivers in a way you must experience to fully understand. Join us on this group or privately led tour through the backcountry of Monarch Ridge.
To begin, you’ll prepare the stoke as the shuttle makes its way to the top of Monarch Pass. The name of the game is a net loss in elevation. While you’ll climb a little, you’ll descend more. A 300-foot climb results in an 800-foot descent, and a 1,600-foot climb, nearly doubles as a 3,000-foot downhill. Depending on how many laps the group decides on doing, the ratio will fluctuate, but not the fun.
As you drift effortlessly through fresh powder, you might notice that the trees are perfectly gladed. In a summer fire mitigation effort, trees were clear-cut into what looks like zebra stripes on the mountain. With the winter snowfall, it becomes a flowy run with perfect turns. It haphazardly created the perfect backcountry ski resort.
If you’re looking for an intro to backcountry skiing, this is your sign. The Monarch Ridge Classic offers amazing skiing with no surprise cliffs and virtually no danger of avalanches. While an intermediate level of skiing is required, it’s as easy as backcountry skiing can get. The snow covers the deadfall of the forest, creating a deep layer of powder to fly through every turn. One guest even claimed they were the best turns he ever had. Noted.
Be ready to leave at 8 am, as laps run from 8 am to 4 pm, with lunch in between. While you’re expending calories, we skin in a sled packed with a grill, burgers, and brats for a midday picnic. You will find Browns Canyon beers tucked in the snow, happily waiting for you at the 4 pm happy hour. At $250 per person, you get big adventure for less cost than some lift tickets. Judging by the testimonials and curated experience, you won’t leave wishing you went to the resort instead.
Details can be found here, and gear is provided. We like to say if it touches your body, it’s yours to bring. Happy shredding and hope to you see you soon in the backcountry.
