Spring Certification Courses

In addition to our guided trips and various adventure packages, we also offer certification courses. As an ACA (American Canoe Association) Pro School, we offer several courses that will increase your knowledge and skills in becoming an instructor or expert in paddle sports. 

ACA L4 Swiftwater Rescue Skills Course/Assessment

This class teaches how to identify common river hazards and how to prevent accidents on the river. In order to take this course, you must be able to paddle class III rapids. Students will learn techniques for paddlers in distress as well as self-rescue techniques. Expect to learn skills in dealing with swimmers, pins, and entrapments, as well as the proper use of throw bags, rescue vests, and other rescue gear. Assessment certificates are available for ACA members. This course is open to all whitewater enthusiasts and will be held on the Arkansas River.

ACA L5 Swiftwater Rescue Skills Course/Assessment

The L4 SWR certification must be completed before taking the L5. It can be used as an L4 update or upgrade to L5. Some time will be spent refreshing skills learned from L4 as well as covering more advanced topics. Expect to learn real-life scenarios that will prepare you for the upcoming boating season. The course will be held on the Arkansas River.

SUP Instructor

RMOC provides ACA L1-L5 SUP Instructor certifications and updates. You must be 18 years old and hold an ACA membership. As the levels progress, you must be able to pass the preceding level assessments. For detailed information on each interval, dates, and location visit our ACA SUP Instructor page.

Wilderness First Aid

Our Wilderness First Aid course provides individuals with a foundation of first aid principles and skills to be able to respond to emergencies and give care in areas that do not have immediate emergency medical services (EMS) response. Participants must be at least 18 years old or 14 with a parent/guardian participating. The course will be 18 hours in total, meeting from 8 am to 6 pm.

Basic First Aid/CPR

We also offer a Basic First Aid/CPR course. There are no requirements for this course. Upon completion, The American Red Cross CPR and AED certificate will be awarded.
