We’ve all heard John Muir’s famous quote, “The mountains are calling and I must go.” And as often as it’s repeated, there’s something to it. The mountains are more than something to see from afar, they are to be experienced for the benefit of the mind, body, and soul.
At RMOC, we are mountain people, because while in them—be it on a rock face or deep in an aspen forest—our minds settle and life’s rhythm slows to a more natural pace. The air is fresher, and when we breathe deeply, our stress lifts and we find contentment. We take in the sounds of the creeks, the birds, and the leaves rustling in the wind, and it becomes clear we have found a way to heal from the pace of everyday life.
While Muir’s quote is famous, and deservedly so, we prefer another of his quotes—”Climb the mountains and get their good tidings”—because that’s exactly what our mountains give us.
Discover good tidings in Colorado’s most beautiful mountains on a guided RMOC trip or instructional course. River season will soon come to a close, and we’ll be shifting our attention from water to land, offering up guided hiking trips to the top of Mounts Elbert, Sherman, Huron, and Arkansas. If you want to challenge yourself further, our Mountaineering Basics instructional course may be what you’re looking for. This three-day course will teach you the skills needed to climb a peak.
Fill yourself with mountain goodness on a bike trip or training course, which will take your riding to the next level. Learn how to roll over rocks and control speed on downhills while working on cornering and braking techniques. Or, (literally) take hold of the mountains on a rock climbing trip, designed for climbers of levels. Try rock climbing for the first time or sharpen your skills and learn how to lead.
Private instructions and groups are always available. All you have to do is ask!
There’s no denying the draw of the mountains, and with RMOC, you’ll find lots of good tidings for the benefit of your whole self.
